About the Photographer
Marilynn Walker was born and raised on beautiful Vancouver Island, B. C.
Canada. As a young adult she spent time teaching in a small valley
community in the interior of B.C., surrounded by the towering mountains of
the Selkirk Range. The impact of these early surroundings has stayed with
her for life. The beauty of the ever-changing ocean and the majesty of the
mountains became her greatest source of peace and inspiration.
Fourteen years ago, after their four children became independent, she and
her husband Dan moved to Costa Rica in Central America. They discovered
their personal paradise. It had oceans and mountains, as well as rain
forests resplendent in tropical flora and fauna. It was a photographer.s
dream come true.
They had always had a desire for adventure travel, and now they began in
earnest. In the last fourteen years they have explored a large portion of
both the modern and ancient world. They have been as far as Svalbard and
Vestspitsbergen in the Barents Sea of the Arctic, and far south in the
Weddell Sea of Antarctica. They have traveled extensively in South East
Asia and Indonesia, experiencing first hand the ancient cultures of many
remote areas. They have crossed the vast expanse of Central Asia, including
all of the former Soviet Union.
Dan writes travelogues and Marilynn takes photographs. She has always had
the passion of the artist, and has successfully dominated many art forms
during her lifetime. Now, the eye of the artist is concentrated in the
composition of the photograph.
She describes her life as "full and exciting". Their family has grown
considerably. They now have 11 grandchildren, including two Costarrican
children they have 'adopted' as family. Between trips to visit them all,
and waiting for the next adventure to begin, Marilynn keeps busy doing
portraits of children in completely natural ambiences.
Her sincerest wish is that her photos, in some small way, may enrich the
lives of those who view them.
